RIM ha notificado a través de una nota de prensa que forman parte del grupo ganador de más de 6000 patentes y aplicaciones de Nortel, junto a RIM se encuentran Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft y Sony. Este portafolio tiene un valor aproximado de USD $4.5 billones, La porción en consideración de compra por RIM se estima en USD $770 millones. La negociación debe ser aprobada por las cortes de USA y Canadá donde sea aplicable, Nortel espera cerrar el trato con el consorcio de empresas en el tercer trimestre del 2011.

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 1, 2011) - As announced separately today by Nortel Networks Corporation, a consortium of certain technology companies, of which Research In Motion Limited ("RIM") (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) is a part, emerged as the winning bidder for all of Nortel's remaining patents and patent applications for a cash purchase price of USD$4.5 billion.
